Vocabulary:
Spreadsheet= an electronic document in which data is arranged in rows and columns of a grid and can
be manipulated and used in calculations
Cell: the box formed on a worksheet that is the intersection of a row and column and information can be entered
Active Cell: the cell that is highlighted and is ready to receive data or information
Cell address: the combination of the column letter and the number of a cell (example: A1)
Data: information that is entered into a cell
Range: series of two or more cells in a column or row (example: B1-B6 or A1-D1)
Fill Down – A feature that allows you to copy information in an active cell to another cell or range of cells selected vertically. (small square in the corner of a cell)
Formula Bar: displays data or the formula that is being entered into a cell
Function – A drop-down menu item and a button on the standard toolbar that allows you to select a formula that you wish to apply to data in your worksheet.
Name box(Excel): this field displays the name of the active cell on the worksheet
Sort: organizing information in specific ways(greatest to least, alphabetically, etc.)
Sheet tab: located at the bottom of a workbook and can be labeled or named
Worksheet: one page of a workbook
Quick access toolbar: toolbar you can create with your favorite commands
Border: the bold lines that you create around cells
Ribbon: the tabs and (icons)commands at the top of the work area
